Swaleby is a fictional town in the Swale valley of North Yorkshire, between York and Darlington, on a diversionary route off the East Coast Main Line. Long-term engineering work on the main line has necessitated the use of Swaleby Station, usually only visited by local services and freight trains. The time era represented is from 1990 to the present day, allowing a wide variety of British Rail services and privatised companies to run side-by-side. High speed passenger services stopping at Swaleby are operated by BR, Virgin and GNER; local services are operated by BR and Arriva Trains Northern multiple units, with the occasional loco-hauled train and ‘steam special’. Freight services are operate by Corus, EWS, Transrail, Freightliner, BR, ARC, Yeoman and National Power, to name a few, and carry a variety of loads, including steel, coal, petroleum and ballast. Engineering, mail and nuclear flask trains also make an appearance. A number of buildings have been scratchbuilt; others have been modified from kits. Look out for a coach wash and swing bridge.
