The club acquired this layout from an elderly modeller who unfortunately could no longer operate or maintain the model. The layout was kindly donated to the club, dismantled and moved to the club’s premises in Ashford in 2005. It has now become a permanent layout and will be restored sympathetically to its 1960s state - around the time the previous owner would have started building the model. Having previously been purpose-built around the room’s four walls, including a ‘lifting bridge’ for people to get into the room, the club has constructed two free standing frameworks to support the two largest baseboards with the remaining two boards ‘free hanging’. The scenic backgrounds, once glued directly onto the walls of the room, have been copied onto suitable back scene boards and will be fixed onto the main baseboards. The original electrical wiring had to be cut through to remove the layout and work is continuing on club nights to restore this.
